The Story Behind A Piece Of Jewellery
A necklace lays flat in the drawer as you open it. Adrenaline rushes throughout your body, you float into the air like midnight smoke. You pick up the necklace and put it around your neck.
Looking at yourself in the mirror, you picture yourself wearing the necklace with your wedding gown.
It reminds of your wedding day two years ago. Such exquisite necklace, where can I wear it again?
Famous Jewelleries From Around The World
Do you have a piece of jewellery that has a story behind it? It’s National Jewellery Day! Explore interesting stories behind the luxurious jewelleries from around the world here:
The Easter egg has represented for both pagan and Christian beliefs for centuries. Signature jewellery pieces, Faberge eggs never failed to fascinate the world with their Russian culture and history.
In 1885, emperor Alexander III (Russian Tsar) was the first to have commissioned the making of a special Easter egg for his wife.
Peter Carl Faberge pioneered the Hen Egg, an enamel egg that contained a yolk and a chicken with movable parts.
Then, he created another 50 special Easter eggs with individual designs. His exquisite work made an impression in Russia (with the help of the goldsmiths and businessmen), which is why his creations still enchant us today.
Salvador Dali – “Royal Heart”
Salvador Dali: “What do you want my heart? What do you wish, my heart?”
Gala: “The beating heart of the ruby!”
Gala craved luxury; Dali invented the jewelleries. He sketched on paper, deliberately working through every colour and design element, then personally selecting materials and stones. His goldsmith, Carlos Alemany, transformed his grandiose ideas into gold.
Thanks to the lovebirds, we get to see the opulent “Royal Heart” requested by Gala. Made with 46 rubies, 42 diamonds, and 4 emeralds into one composition — the movable center “beats” like a real heart.
Dali finally found his own original style, and everyone recognises his beautiful creations. Not forgetting, he ingeniously fulfilled Gala’s insane desire for luxury!
In Dali’s book, Secret Life, he sees Gala as “the one who moves forward, my victory, my wife.” And yes, she remained by his side eternally.
Heart of Ocean Necklace
A century ago, a ship sank after colliding with an iceberg. Recall the love story of Jack and Rose in James Cameron’s famous blockbuster, Titanic.
Do you remember the “Heart of the Ocean” in Titanic? Everyone thinks the story is entirely fictional; it actually is based on real events.
Turns out there was a diamond and sapphire necklace at the center of the tragedy. It belonged to a young English girl, Kate Florence Phillips, gifted to her from her married lover, Samuel Morley.
The couple boarded the ship, planning to elope together from England to America. When the ship began to sink, Morley had rapidly put the necklace around Kate’s neck before succumbing to fate. Kate, on the other hand, survived.
Princess Diana’s engagement ring
Princess Diana chose the engagement ring herself after becoming engaged to Princes Charles.
She had later chosen an oval blue sapphire engagement ring by Garrard Jewellers. It’s an 18-carat ring surrounded by 14 diamonds in a clustered design.
When Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton in 2010, he gave her the ring he inherited from his mother.
“Jewellery is something that has to do with emotion. That aspect of jewellery really interests me.”
— Ann Demeulemeester, The Flemish fashion designer known for her collections based on the poetic balance of shadows and light
